Beyond Hard WorkAll of the sermons, praise, and platitudes Can be overwhelming, overbearing, and never-ending. Yet, in the pursuit of growth and improvement, It is hard to imagine elevating performance Without Working Hard. Throughout most of my 55 years, I have swung from the “hard work” pendulum between Preaching And Compliance. To work hard Seemed so obvious That I rarely questioned The stability of the fixture That holds the Hard Work pendulum in place. However, Surfing waves on the surfski and writing about my experiences here Brought this pendulum to a stop Long enough to ask: Is Hard Work the right pendulum? And... If there is a different pendulum, what would be its critical fixture of support? Only in the past few years, As I've learned how to welcome more leverage into my own pursuits of growth and improvement - The acquisition of Free Energy - Rarely have I said to myself, "You know what would get things going right now? More Hard Work! Just more of that and I'll be all set." When we backtrack the process From the moment in which Free Energy is realized, Hard Work Does not appear as a step... But rather as an element to Move Beyond. What appears instead of working hard? Our Wave Surfing Progression helps us To work wisely From a place of Simplicity and Understanding Which holds space for Curiosity, Consistency and Quality. Here, Hard work fades away As we swing between Creativity And Connection On the pendulum of Free Energy. With gratitude, Joe PS - A place where Free Energy is commonly lost is in the process of navigating Transition. This is as true in work, life, and relationships as it is in surfing waves in the sea. I was recently invited on to the Athlete Transition Accelerator Podcast to share my experiences and lessons learned in Transitions, not only in sport but in the life chapters that followed. You do not need to be an athlete to enjoy this conversation. The hosts framed intriguing and thoughtful questions that led to a wonderful discussion. The Next Right Move What is the next right move? Next year? Next month? Next week? Today? As nobody wants to get this wrong, The question has the power to: Raise doubt Increase resistance and Push back Because When we consider this question While rushing through life and Striving on autopilot, A gap is created between Where we are And Where we think we should be. And to our detriment, Overreaching for "Should" Does not reveal A great next right move. Adding more weight and drag to Our efforts...
The Value Of UpWind Most every Thinking In Waves essay Is based on the idea of Surfing Waves That follow the direction of the wind… Which is called a DownWind. DownWinds are what we want most - At sea And in Life. They generate the greatest amount of Fun Engagement and Free Energy. Yet, Over the course of my life, I have spent - And continue to spend - Countless hours Paddling a canoe against the flow of the river current Running and skiing up mountains And Paddling a surfski against the...
